Hey there! I’m Benjamin, the guy behind the lens.

About me

I’m a Brisbane based freelancer that offers a fresh, albeit totally old school, take on capturing your precious moments.
After discovering my Mum’s old 35mm point-and-shoot camera from the 70s and running a roll through it I WAS HOOKED! This single-handedly kicked off a passion for the mechanical, technical and artistic sides of photography that has stayed strong for many years.
Slap! Photography was born out of this interest for analogue film cameras and the warmth and charm only film photography can produce.

This infatuation with film photography melds perfectly with my appreciation for all things vintage and by-gone. I love old cars, old music, old fashion, old art, you name it. They don’t make things like they used to and that makes the moments we spend with old technology special.

I’ve upgraded from that old point-and-shoot to a more industry standard fit-out, but I still shoot it from time to time and it still produces some great images!

So what makes Slap! different?

Analogue film is the difference. No digital photography here.
I shoot your moments solely on analogue filmstock. This brings with it a certain feel, a texture and also the unabashed novelty of, well, having shot it on film!

Sure analogue photography can be an imprecise medium to work with sometimes, but the outcome can undoubtedly be quite magical and breath-taking more often than not.

Why is it “Slap” Photograpy?

Because analogue film photography straight up SLAPS!

When a single-lens-reflex (SLR) style camera is fired; a mirror inside the body flips up so that light coming through the lens can pass underneath it and be recorded by the film inside. This operation is usually accompanied by a tapping sound as the mirror hits the body and comes back down to rest. This sound is described as ‘shutter slap’.

It’s a film thing!
